Servicing, Maintenance, Upgrades, Ad-hoc Repairs and Technical Support to Saiab’s Two 15m Aluminium Research Vessels for a Period of Five (5) Years

The National Research Foundation (NRF) invites bids for planned and unforeseen maintenance, servicing, upgrades, ad-hoc repairs, and technical support for two 15m aluminium research vessels (RV Observer and RV Phakisa) over a five-year period. This encompasses ensuring full operational safety, managing corrosion, appropriate repairs, compatible coatings, and the seamless integration of all vessel systems including engines, generators, electrics, navigation, hull, and superstructure. Services will be required both onsite at the Ports of Port Elizabeth and Durban, and offsite as needed.
To be eligible, bidders must have a demonstrable history in the construction or maintenance of large (>15m) aluminium vessels for a minimum of five years and be actively working in the marine aluminium vessel maintenance and/or building industry. Mandatory requirements include having key personnel who are certified aluminium welders (qualified for 4-6mm thickness) and qualified electricians with expertise in marine electrical installations on aluminium vessels. Additionally, the service provider must be an authorised agent for IVECO marine engines and Hamilton Jet propulsion systems, and possess a workshop located within 100km of either the Port of Port Elizabeth or the Port of Durban.
