Appointment of a Service Provider to Undertake Research Project Coe 240603: Comparative Performance Assessment of Water-based Dust Suppression Spray Systems and Supplementary Interventions in South African Underground and Surface Mining Operations

The Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC) seeks to appoint a service provider to conduct a comparative performance assessment of water-based dust suppression spray systems and supplementary interventions used within the South African Mining Industry (SAMI) for both underground and surface mining operations. The scope includes conducting national and international literature reviews, identifying and classifying existing dust suppression systems in SAMI, evaluating their performance using qualitative and quantitative indicators, comparing performance metrics against benchmarks, developing a draft guidance document with best practices, and facilitating a hybrid workshop.
Bidders must demonstrate a minimum of 5 years' experience in conducting applied research. The project team must include members with at least 10 years of experience in occupational hygiene (respirable dust monitoring, control technologies, exposure assessment in mining) and a minimum of 5 years' experience for a mechanical engineer (fluid/aerodynamics) and a chemical engineer/environmental scientist (water quality analysis).
